Destination Wedding Photographer.
Along with photography another great passion of mine in life is travel. I love that being a destination wedding photographer allows me to combine both of these passions.
A number of years ago, whilst on Facebook I came across the work of a Mexican photographer –Daniel Aguilar. I instantly fell in love with his work and couldn’t believe my luck when I saw that
he was coming to the UK to run a workshop in Manchester, I signed up straight away. Four of us spent two inspiring days of learning, eating and drinking. I loved the workshop so much that I took another one of Daniel’s the following year in London. I then convinced him to come back to the UK again the following year and helped him organise two more sell out workshops in Kent. Having the workshops local to me was a bonus as he stayed with my wife, and I and shot a portrait session for us, he’s a absolute master in capturing his subject in the right light.
I was always pestering him to let me come and second shoot one of his weddings in Mexico with him and last March he made this happen for me. I’d been to Mexico once before back in 2000 when I was backpacking though Central America. I was really looking forward to going back especially as I’d be being shown around by a local. Straight off the flight it was a 3 hour bus journey out of Mexico City and then to a taco stand, they tasted so good.
The wedding took place in the amazing El Santuario Hotel. The setting is reminiscent of something you’d find in the Italian lakes. The wedding day started as most of my weddings do with the bridal prep. Although this was slightly more chaotic than I’ve seen before, the room was packed with bridesmaids, family, friends, makeup artists, hairdressers and videographers. The groom was getting ready a few rooms away in slightly calmer surroundings.
The ceremony took place outdoors in the grounds of the hotel with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Afterwards it was time for the family formals and a quick portrait session with the bride and groom before sitting down with the guests to an amazing meal. From this point on it was time to party, after a beautiful first dance it was non stop. My word these guys know how to party and drink. When we left at 2am to go to bed the wedding was still in full swing. By all accounts the bride and groom did not stop dancing until gone 6 am.
Thank you Danny so much for allowing me to come and shoot this wedding with you and your great hospitality for the week that I was with you in Mexico. Most of all thanks for taking me to the most amazing taco street stall for breakfast in Mexico City.
If you’re looking for a destination wedding photographer please do get in touch, I’d love to chat to you about capturing your big day wherever it’s taking place in the world.
